The Special Day
From the moment Amy walked down the woodland aisle with her dad by her side, surrounded by rustling leaves and fairy lights, we all knew this ceremony would be something special.
Theirs was a wedding filled with laughter, authenticity, and just a little bit of magic — the kind of celebration where dogs carry the rings, ribbons carry blessings, and the couple’s unique story is front and centre.
A New Year’s Eve Meet-Cute
Amy and Richard’s love story began on New Year’s Eve — but not your typical one. Amy was curled up at home in her pyjamas, watching Piranha with a mug of wine (her idea of heaven). That is, until her friend Alice persuaded her to come out.
Enter Richard — the designated driver that night, who showed up at the party and changed everything. One glance between them and the spark was undeniable. That night was the start of something deep and lasting.
A Spooky Proposal
Amy’s favourite day of the year? Halloween. So it was only fitting that Richard chose a woodland Halloween dance — complete with glow sticks, pumpkins and red wine — to propose. Dressed in spooky costume, surrounded by fairy lights and trees, he popped the question. Amy said yes, and the rest is (beautiful) history.
The Ceremony
Their ceremony was full of personality and love. We told their story — from sofa nights and laughter to forest adventures and creative chaos (Amy’s artistic touches are everywhere in their home).
They shared heartfelt vows promising adventure, honesty, and unconditional support. Richard spoke of Amy’s caring nature, her spontaneity, and how she fills their home with colour and joy. Amy talked about Richard’s kindness, humour, and how he always lifts her when she’s low.
Bonus moment: Their dog Poppy proudly delivered the rings — much to the delight of everyone watching.
Handfasting with Meaning
To honour their Celtic roots, Richard and Amy chose a handfasting ceremony, with each ribbon representing a different blessing:
Red: Strength and courage
Orange: Sensitivity and understanding
Yellow: Enthusiasm and equality
Green: Affection and care
Light Blue: Honesty and communication
Purple: Wisdom and harmony
Gold: Unity and divine presence
Family members took turns reading out the meaning of each ribbon before tying it around their joined hands. It was heartfelt, symbolic, and deeply moving.
The Final Blessing
Before the kiss, we closed with a hand blessing — a reminder that these are the hands that will comfort, build, support, and hold each other through a lifetime.
And with a joyful cheer, I had the honour of pronouncing them husband and wife.
Richard and Amy’s wedding was a celebration of everyday love — the kind found in laughter, silly costumes, shared creativity, and unwavering support. It was earthy, emotional, and unforgettable.
If you're dreaming of a ceremony that's completely you — whether in a woodland glade, on a windswept beach, or in your own back garden — I’d love to help you tell your story.
